Smart Materials and Structures Conference 2026

The 4th International Conference on Smart Materials and Structures was organized by SRH Hochschule Berlin University of Applied Sciences, on March 30-31, 2026, Berlin, Germany.

Prof. Dr. Maria Tomoaia-Cotisel, from Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, BBU, Romania, and Full Member of Academy of Romanian Scientists, ARS, was invited by the Conference Organizing Committee, (e.g., Prof. Dr. Klauss-Ulrich Neumann and Prof. Dr. Michael Hartmann) as a Keynote speaker to shear her knowledge and views on the topic: “Advanced Biotechnology: Modulation of doxorubicin cytotoxicity by smart gold nanoparticles multi-functionalized with natural compounds in targeting human cervical and breast cancer cells”, for the Theme: “Fostering tomorrow’s possibilities: Unveiling innovations and applications with smart materials”.

This field is currently experiencing a revolution driven by nanotechnology. Moreover, smart materials are revolutionizing biomedicine, by enabling targeted drug delivery and tissue engineering. Key examples include nanostructured biomaterials precisely applied to improve human cancer treatment and healthcare outcomes through biocompatible interfaces, responsive antimicrobial surfaces, and regenerative scaffolds.

Smart materials are also engineered to change their properties (e.g., color, viscosity, or electrical charge) in response to external stimuli like temperature, pressure, light or magnetic field. Key examples include shape memory alloys, piezoelectric ceramics and self-healing polymers, widely applied in aerospace, construction, and robotics.
