Specific Objectives

An analytical study will be performed to optimize analytical methods of high precision and sensitivity, based on the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with the atom and the ion-atom interaction (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry – ICP-MS, Particle Induced X-Ray Emission Spectrometry – PIXE) in correlation with environmental biomonitoring techniques using bioindicators (water, vegetation, soil, etc.), for the identification and quantitative determination of heavy metals as environmental pollutants in some development areas of Romania. The content of heavy metals with a high degree of pollution (example: Cr, Pb, Cd, Co, Ni, Mn, Cu, Fe and Zn) from surface waters and some food products, determined by ICP-MS, will be evaluated. Statistical interpretation of the results will be made.
