Professional-didactic activity : lecturer, 1976-1980; associate professor, 1981-1990; university professor, 1990 – present. He is the director of the Doctoral School of Mathematics and of a Center of Excellence, accredited by CNCSIS, at the University of Craiova, being practically the main creator of the School of Mathematics of Craiova , having so far 15 (confirmed) doctors in mathematics

Scientific activity: he started his scientific career on August 1, 1970, as a mathematician, at the prestigious Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy. The main original contributions to scientific research concern mathematical analysis and its applications, addressing issues of Banach space theory, operator theory, dynamical systems and, more recently, convex analysis, among which we mention: generalization of the concept of absolute continuity; the structure of weakly compact operators (defined on Banch latics, – algebras or other ordered Banach spaces); the structure of ordered Banach spaces and related spaces; Alfsen-Effros theory; recurrence properties of dynamical systems; study of convexity inequalities. He is the author of 8 mathematical monographs, one at Springer Publishing (2006), two at the Academy Publishing (1981, 1996). He is a member of the editorial boards of 10 specialized scientific journals, of which 6 in the country: Mathematical Inequalities and Applications; PanAmerican Mathematical Journal; Mathematica Balkanica; Journal of Inequalities in Pure and Applied Mathematics; Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications; Aequationes Mathematicae; Rocky Mountains Journal of Mathematics; Mathematical Modeling and Analysis; Mathematical Reports; Bull. Shock. Ski. Math. roumanie Annals of the Academy of Romanian Scientists, Series on Mathematics and Its Applications; Annals of the University of Craiova (Mathematics and Informatics series); Creative Mathematics; Mathematical newspaper (series A) . He has published (since 1974) over 90 scientific papers in widely circulated journals in the country (50) and abroad (45, mostly in ISI-listed journals). Among the works, we quote: Absolute Continuity and Weak Compactness (1975), contains the essence of my doctoral thesis; Absolute Continuity in Banach Space Theory (1979); Weak Compactness in Banach Lattices (1981); Convexity according to the Geometric Mean (2000); A New Look at Newton’s Inequalities (2002 JIPAM Award); Non-commutative Extensions of Classical and Multiple Recurrence Theorems, (2003), Convex Functions and Their Applications . A Contemporary Approach (2006). He is the main organizer of numerous national and international conferences held in Craiova since 1977, being one of the founding members of the National Conference on Mathematical Analysis and Applications. He has participated as a guest at conferences in prestigious universities abroad (England, France, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Israel, Greece, Turkey, Pakistan) and in the country (Cluj, Timisoara, Brasov, Constanta). He has led 16 research grants as a director.

Awards and distinctions: two awards of the Romanian Academy – Gheorghe Ţiţeica, in 1980, and Simion Stoilow, in 1998, for the book Fundamentals of mathematical analysis – analysis on the real right. Journal of Inequalities in Pure and Applied Mathematics Award, Melbourne, Australia, 2002. Diploma of Excellence in Mathematics (2008), from the Romanian Society of Mathematical Sciences.
