The increase of the incidence of the diseases of the oro-facial system and the bio-economic, respectively psychosocial impact required the appearance and development of the oro-dental prevention. Primary prevention is applied in order to prevent the occurrence of diseases. Secondary prevention is applied from the early stages of diseases, which are stopped from their evolution by applying curative therapies. Tertiary prevention includes all therapeutic procedures performed in order to rehabilitate the morpho-functional functions affected.
The preventive measures applied in order to reduce the prevalence of the diseases of the oro-facial system are correlated with the evaluation and reduction of the risk of carious lesions, by performing the correct oro-dental hygiene, respectively by achieving an adequate diet.
Currently, correctly applied preventive dentistry is the most effective method of maintaining oral health.
