ACADEMY OF SCIENTISTS OF ROMANIA (AOSR) – 1996<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the first AOS congress, organized on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Romanian Association of Scientists, with the theme “Science at the end of the millennium”, Mr. Grl. Prof. Vasile C\u00e2ndea<\/strong> proposed the return of the institution to the title of 1935-1948, namely that of “ACADEMIE”, with the preservation of certain elements of the name of the association and thus the title became “Academy of Romanian Scientists”, hereinafter abbreviated AOSR.<\/p>\n

The adoption of the name “Academy of Romanian Scientists (AOSR)” was approved by the AOSR General Assembly on 22-24 May 1996, which took place during the First AOSR Congress at the Palace of Parliament, in the presence of many members of the Romanian Academy (Eugen Simion, Vice-President of the Romanian Academy, Marius Sabin Peculea, Secretary General of the Romanian Academy, N.N. Constantinescu, former Secretary General of the Romanian Academy between 1990-1994, Alexandru Balaci, Mihnea Gheorghiu, President of the Arts, Architecture and Audiovisual Section of the Romanian Academy, Nicolae Cajal, President of the Medical Sciences Section of the Romanian Academy, Cristofor Simionescu, Vasile St\u0103nescu, Toma Dordea, Constantin B\u0103l\u0103ceanu-Stolnici, Gabriel \u021aepelea, R\u0103zvan Teodorescu, Dorel Zugr\u0103vescu), some prominent members of the AOSR (Dan Amedeo L\u0103z\u0103rescu, Corneliu Coposu) and 40 scientists from abroad. Academician Eugen Simion, Vice-President of the Romanian Academy at that time, participated as a member of the Presidium of the General Assembly. There were no objections from the participants when the name change was debated and the decision was adopted unanimously.<\/p>\n

The Academy of Romanian Scientists is the successor and sole legatee of the Romanian Academy of Sciences (1936-1948) and of the Romanian Association of Scientists, established by HCM no.1012\/30 May 1956, which in 1996 changed its title from Romanian Association of Scientists to Academy of Romanian Scientists (Court decision of 3 October 1996, adopted by the Court of Sector 1 Bucharest, Case 231\/P.J.\/1996).<\/em><\/p>\n

The Academy of Romanian Scientists functioned as an NGO until the advent of Law no. 31\/2007, when it became an institution of public interest. Draft Law of the Academy of Romanian Scientists, initiated by Gen. (r) Prof. univ. dr. Vasile C\u00c2NDEA and Senator Ion BASGAN (for which the Bureau of the Presidium of the Romanian Academy and the President Ionel Haiduc gave their consent, with the mention that the newly created institution would be called “Academy of Romanian Scientists” and the title would be translated into English “Academy of Romanian Scientists”), was supported before the Romanian Parliament and approved almost unanimously by both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The law was submitted to the President of Romania for promulgation and entered into force on 15 January 2007 (Law 31\/15 Jan. 2007, published in the Official Gazette no. 35 of 18 Jan. 2007).<\/p>\n

AOSR organised the 2nd AOSR Congress (27-29 Sept. 1998) in Bucharest – “Development on the Threshold of the Third Millennium”, the 3rd AOSR Congress (1-4 June 2004) in Constanta – “Water – a Miracle”, the 4th AOSR Congress (15-17 October 2009) in Timi\u0219oara – “Quality of Life” – and the 5th AOSR Congress (30-31 May 2013) in Bucharest – “Earth – Our Home”.<\/p>\n

Having been elected President of the Academy of Scientists, Mr. General Prof. Dr. Vasile C\u00e2ndea, together with the members of the Board of Directors, evaluated the members according to selective scientific, internal and international criteria. In this respect, in 2003, the number of full members was reduced from around 4500 to 312, and the list of members was communicated to the Ministry of Education and Research, although at the time the Academy had NGO status. Their number was subsequently reduced to around 100, based on internationally recognised scientific visibility criteria.<\/p>\n

OBJECTIVES
\n<\/strong>The Academy of Romanian Scientists is a national forum of scientific consecration, which brings together representative personalities of science. The main aims of the AOSR are to promote, develop, support, protect science in all its forms, actions and methods, direct, indirect or adjacent. The main objectives of AOSR are:<\/p>\n
